We are so excited to welcome into our CC Sponsored family Our NEW Latin Sponsored Gold dancer Anna Mashchyts, who dances with partner Damir Haluzan. They started dancing together in 2009 as Youth and currently they are registered as a couple in Slovenia, dancing Amateur. So far their best mark is placing 1st in the Amateur Latin in the San Fransico Open in the USA April, 2018. Their titles include:
2nd place World Champions
3rd place Blackpool finalists
As they came into the head office to meet the team and pick up Anna’s new dresses, I was intrigued to find out more about them and their year so far ...
How has your year been on the lead up to the Internationals?
Anna: Not bad lol!
Damir: Definitely there have been ups and downs. Dancing in big comps, small comps we have tried out different styles and techniques. Before the big comps we try to put all the puzzle pieces together that we have collected over the last 3 months in preparation before a big competition. We try and create the ‘picture’ of what we want a couple of weeks before the competition. For me this year has been all about collecting information and putting the pieces together in a way that will make us feel right and spot on. I think we are much more experienced after so many finals and we are getting used to this way of working.
Anna: We have done quite a few changes in the last few months since Blackpool; a change in our lifestyle, nutrition, physical preparation, dress designer sponsorship with you guys! I feel we have done major changes in our lives... like getting engaged in June after Blackpool!! 🙂 I feel not everything we have worked for will show at the Internationals as these things can take time, but for me it feels like we are on a different track which is a better track! And we feel really good in the direction we are going!
Congratulations on your engagement! What are your wedding plans?!
Anna: We are looking at getting married next year – after Blackpool in June 🙂 In Croatia!
Damir: There is one small town in Croatia where we always go on holiday, it is our favourite place.
Anna: It is not far from Ljubljana, about 2 hours away by car.
Have you gone wedding dress shopping yet?
Anna: I have my dress already! I just fell in love with it as soon as I saw it so I just bought it! Lol
What do you do in your spare time to relax?
Anna: We have so little spare time that when we have time off I feel I need to look after my body and recuperate like have a massage, go to a sauna. But this is not something I would do if I wasn’t so tired, it is something I have to do in order to feel better and be able to continue practicing and dancing. As well as get my nails done! and catch up with my friends and family 🙂 If we had more time we love to spend it outdoors with nature maybe in a park and read a book! Forget about phones and the hustle and bustle of dancing life and the big city. Spend time with one another and close friends, enjoying nice food, drinks and conversation :)
What are your dress Inspirations?
Anna: Ooooh inspirations … I think you kind’ve build up something in your head for a long time, I cannot give away all my secrets on what inspires me as they may inspire someone else lol 😉 But images of dresses that I like (not dance dresses) , combined with my own vision of myself that has been building up and changing over the years. The help of Phoebe (our couture designer), has been amazing! Without her the looks for the Internationals wouldn’t happen.
Do you have a particular signature look?
Anna: I love to have a 2 piece dress! But I know I cannot have that all the time and try and change it up as much as I can. The look really has to look Latin, meaning it needs to have a connection with the heritage of the dance such as Cuba and Brazil where those Latin dances were originated from. It doesn’t have to be that every dress has a Cuban feel but something – an essence, that reminds me of the Latin routes and origins. That is what inspires me.
Do you have any advice to young dancers reading this?
Anna: Never give up! It is important to not give up on your own beliefs and own ideas. Especially young dancers, they have a lot of fresh idea’s with the way they see the dance and feel the music, it can be completely different and not done or thought of before. It can happen that with influences; when to the best of intentions try to guide them, can loose their identity and go off track. Never loose your instinct or crazy ideas you are unsure about, stick to them and what you believe by intuition, to be right. This is what makes you unique.
Who is your most respected apponent?
Anna: Ohh I cant pick one! Dancers are developing all the time and where you may have great respect for one couple, another will come along and will do something even more amazing and you start to admire them! Then another couple will break into the final and you then think wow what a great couple. We are all developing and changing all the time so it is hard to say. I definitely respect and admire every finalist, semi finalist, quarter finalist as they all work very hard, and I feel I can find inspiration in almost every dancer.
Damir: Even with a new beginner you can see the passion for the dancing which reminds you that that passion is what got us dancing to this level in the first place. Sometimes you can loose yourself along the way of this journey with this being my job, my business I have to do it, loosing the passion you once had, these are always great reminders.
Anna: For me it is LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH. It is really important to live each day not just go through the motions but experience moments in your everyday life. To laugh and not take things too seriously, to have more laughter in your life is really important. Love what you do, love the people around you. It is the same with dance to really be in the moment, be in that step in that music, to laugh and have fun and to share your love of the dance with all who is watching.
Such a lovely couple wishing you guys the best of luck for the Internationals and all of your future wedding plans for next year :)
