Vilhelmina at the Blackpool Dance Festival 2025

We reconnect with Vilhelmina and Alex following their triumph at the Blackpool Dance Festival to learn about their experiences this year and the inspiration behind her Chrisanne Clover Tropic Lime Ballroom Dress...

BDD701PP – Vilhelmina wore this striking tropic lime Ballroom dress adorned with 3 dimensional petals and embellished with Swarovski crystals including colours moonlight, electric yellow, crystal shimmer and metallic sunshine

How was this years experience for you both at the blackpool Dance Festival? We are absolutely thrilled to have made it to the final! It's our first time performing in the final of the Blackpool Dance Festival, and it felt truly incredible.   Please confirm your results? We placed 6th in the Professional Ballroom Rising Star

You wore a tropic lime dress – please tell me why you chose this colour and more about the design of your dress? We picked tropic lime knowing how vibrant it is and that the colour really pops, particularly on the floor in the Wintergardens, and it happens to be Alex’s favourite colour! I love the 3D flowers, they have become part of my dance fashion, but with this dress we tried something unique with the cutouts on the sides of the. bodice, which turned out fantastic.

Any fond memories you can share with us that you had at the this event? This time, we shared a ‘day of a dancer’ on our Instagram stories, and our friends really enjoyed it as they could keep up with our day. We kicked things off in the morning by showcasing our breakfast, followed by the getting ready process with hair and makeup, warming up, and everything in between. Many of our friends and students from the USA, Sweden, China, Hong Kong, and beyond tuned in to the live stream and sent us a flurry of cheerful messages, making us feel incredibly supported, which was such a blast!

What are your plans now? Our goal is to continue enhancing our dancing skills in the USA. This summer season is quite intense, filled with numerous competitions that we will take part in. We eagerly anticipate returning to the prestigious Albert Hall in London in September for the International Dance Festival.

We look forward to seeing Vilhelmina and Alex back in the UK in October for the Internationals! Follow @vilhelminalavrov and @alex.lavrov_on Instagram for all their competition updates

Anna at the Blackpool Dance Festival 2025

Following her performance at the famous Blackpool Dance Festival in May with partner Eric, we reconnect with Anna to learn about the inspirations that led to her new Chrisanne Clover Ballroom dresses, which she showcased at the event…

Congratulations on your results at the Blackpool Dance Festival – how was this years’ experience for you both?   Last year was our first time competing in Professional Ballroom, which made it quite nerve-wracking. However, this year we truly relished our time dancing even more.     Please kindly confirm your results for each dance

BDD720PP: This electric pink Ballroom dress was made for the team match event, embellished with Swarovski crystals including colours light topaz, metallic sunshine and crystal shimmer

You had 3 new dresses made for the event – please share your inspirations and ideas behind each dress

We had a fantastic colour for the team match; the team leader proposed Electric Pink adorned with gold crystals. This colour combination is truly unique. Electric Pink and gold together really draws the eye. I'm extremely happy with how the designer positioned the crystals – the overall finish of my dress looked so sparkling and elegant.

BDD702PP: Anna wore this orange and cappuccino Ballroom dress in earlier rounds, embellished with Swarovski crystals including colours orange glow delite, light rose shimmer and tangerine.

The orange dress draws inspiration from my apple green dress that I wore for the Internationals last October. I adored that dress so much that I wanted a gown with a similar concept – a vibrant colour adorned with sparkling Swarovski crystals, expertly selected and arranged by the Chrisanne Clover team. The pink hue of the crystals complements the orange beautifully. I felt incredibly confident wearing it, and the orange just glowed and stood out so much under the dancefloor lights.

BDD697PP: For the final Anna wore this black and sugar pink Ballroom dress, adorned with feather fringe and embellished with Swarovski crystals including colours crystal AB, jet hematite and light rose.

For the finale, I wanted something that combines elegance with fashion. In my black and pink dress, I truly felt like a princess!      Did you have a favourite dress and why?

Without a doubt, my black and pink dress for the finale was stunning. It appeared even more beautiful than the initial design illustration and made me feel like a princess. I adore the crystal embellishments and the way the dress flows while dancing. Chrisanne Clover truly excels at capturing intricate details.

Anna showcases our NEW limited lace collection against her stunning couture collection, wearing left: Elizabeth top with the Isabelle Ballroom skirt. Right: Florence Ballroom dress

We had the new limited dancewear at the Blackpool Dance Festival stand. What were your favourite pieces from the new collection and why?

I wore the Harriet Top along with the Anya Trousers for the conference, and I truly appreciated the overall appearance! The Harriet top, in particular, caught my eye. It boasts a unique style – both fashionable and sophisticated at the same time. The lace detailing is incredibly alluring, which is also the reason I am fond of the Florence dress with its delicate lace back as well.

Anna wears the Daphne Ballroom Dress from the 2025 Chrisanne Clover Dancewear collection

Do you have a favourite dancewear piece from our other collections?

My current favourite is probably the Daphne Ballroom Dress from the Chrisanne Clover Dancewear 2025 collection that was launched in January. I love the georgette cape sleeves they make the perfect floats and creates lots of movement when dancing.

What are your plans now? I’m preparing for more competitions and looking forward to my next dress Chrisanne Clover will make for me for the Internationals in October!

We look forward to seeing Anna and Eric again in the UK in October for the Internationals!

Irina at The Worlds Open Blackpool

After triumphing in the Professional Ballroom at The Worlds Blackpool, we reconnect with Irina to find out how her experience at Blackpool was…

How was this years experience for you both at the worlds Blackpool?

It was wonderful as ever; returning to the UK, the heart of the Ballroom world, always feels incredible, particularly when visiting such a legendary and historic place like The Blackpool Tower.

Bdd714pp Buttercream Irina’s finale buttercream dress was embellished with Swarovski crystals including colours light rose, sunshine delite and crystal shimmer.

You wore 3 stunning dresses, please tell me your favourite dress and the design inspirations behind it?

My favourite dress among the three is the buttercream one, although I adore all my Chrisanne Clover dresses.

The inspiration for this dress came from a trip to Paris we took in January for a two-day holiday, where we visited Balenciaga. I tried on one of their couture dresses and instantly fell in love with it. It was made of black velvet and featured a hip corset design. The price was astonishing, as you can imagine, so after sharing my thoughts with the designers about what I loved in that dress, they crafted a similar hip line for me. In my opinion, it looks even better than the Balenciaga dress on me.

Bdd715pp In earlier rounds Irina wore this black and cappuccino Ballroom dress embellished with Swarovski crystals and adorned with ostrich feather boas

What was it like dancing in the tower ballroom with its grand history?

The tower ballroom is incredibly stunning; when you gaze at the ceiling and the surroundings, it feels as if you’ve stepped into a fairy tale. It’s truly enchanting, especially in my buttercream dress, which made the experience feel exceptionally special.

BDD671PP

For the team match, Irina wore this red lace Ballroom dress embellished with Swarovski crystals and adorned with ostrich feather boas

What are your plans now?

We have just returned from our brief holiday and are beginning to get ready for the Internationals. Naturally, we are looking at a very hectic summer ahead, filled with numerous events, shows, and travels to Asia.

We look forward to seeing Irina and Stanislav back in the UK in October for the Internationals!

This spring, we turn to six standout shades from the Chrisanne Clover colour collection to inspire your next ballroom dance dress. From the soft elegance of Bluebell to the bold energy of Neon Red, these spring colours are perfect for creating a ballroom dress that feels alive with personality and poise.

Bluebell: Soft and Romantic

Ideal for layered skirts in georgette or stretch net, this hue brings a delicate, romantic energy to any ballroom fabric design. Complementary crystal colours that harmonize perfectly include crystal, light sapphire, tanzanite and alexandrite.

Neon Red: Bold and Unforgettable

Vibrant, dynamic, and impossible to ignore – Neon Red is made for bold performers who want to command attention from the first step. Experiment with pleating as shown on Natascha’s dresses that creates luxurious depth and shine. Crystals that complement this lively tone beautifully include light siam, hyacinth, siam and crystal.

Cobalt: Confident and Commanding

For dancers who want to make a striking impression, Cobalt brings depth, richness, and an undeniable presence under stage lights to make sure you stand out on a dancefloor. It pairs beautifully with crystal embellishments and structured silhouettes. Add dimension with bugle bead droppers which enhance the luxurious tone of this colour and create subtle drama in motion. Complementary crystal colours that harmonize perfectly include capri blue, sapphire, dark indigo and crystal.

Salmon: Refined and Radiant

A sophisticated take on pink, refined, flattering, and ideal for spring styling. It looks exceptional in our botanic embroidery on stretch net especially when paired with delicate floral details for a fresh seasonal feel. Finish the look with our  luxury 6 ply Ostrich feathers to bring elegance and soft movement to the design. This hue pairs beautifully with crystal tones in padparadscha, coral, rose and crystal

Saffron: Sunny Warmth

Saffron sings of spring – a golden hue that radiates warmth and adds luminous depth to any ballroom dance dress. It’s natural vibrancy shines through in velour and chiffon fabrics, giving movement a fluid, sunlit quality. This charming shade pairs beautifully with crystal colours in light topaz, topaz, citrine and crystal

Apple Green: Crisp and Refreshing

Bright, zesty and fun, Apple Green breathes life into any ballroom dress and is definitely hard to miss. Ideal for spring and early summer events, this colour works beautifully in satin chiffon and shading. It pairs beautifully with crystal shades in peridot, shamrock, fern green and crystal

A step-by-step guide to your bespoke dress

1. The vision: your Chrisanne Clover couture journey begins

Your bespoke experience starts with a personal consultation. Our expert sales team will discuss your inspiration, preferred style, and performance needs, helping shape your vision into reality. Whether you have a clear concept or need guidance, we work closely with you to ensure the design reflects your individuality. It is also worth noting that this does not need to be an in person meeting

2. The measurements: the foundation of the perfect fit

A flawless fit is essential. You will complete our specialised measurement chart, which ensures that your gown is tailored to your exact proportions, without the need for an in-person fitting.

This step is more than just numbers - it allows our designers to create a dress that will enhance your movement and flatter your figure, ensuring that every detail of the design works in harmony with your silhouette.

3. The virtual design consultation: bringing your dress to life

Once your measurements are submitted, you will have a virtual consultation with our creative design team. This is your opportunity to:

-              Share your vision and any inspiration

-              Discuss preferred styles, fabrics, and embellishments

-              Explore details that will enhance both performance and aesthetics

This collaborative process ensures we fully understand what is important to you, creating a starting point for your bespoke design.

4. The design illustration: your dress takes shape

Following the consultation, our team will create a stylised illustration of your gown. This sketch captures the essence of your design and allows you to visualise the final creation.

At this stage, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback and request adjustments. The length of time available for revisions will depend on when the dress is required, so early consultations are encouraged.

Once you are happy with the final design, we will proceed to the next stage.

5. The deposit: confirming your couture piece

To begin production, a 50% deposit is required upon confirmation of your design. This secures your place in our couture schedule, allowing our expert artisans to start bringing your dream dress to life.

6. The craftsmanship: hand-finished in London

With your design finalised, our team of highly skilled dressmakers in our London atelier begins crafting your gown with precision and care. Each piece is hand-cut, hand-sewn, and hand-embellished to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship. Swarovski® crystals are applied with flawless attention to detail, creating a gown that sparkles under the lights. Every stitch is carefully considered to balance elegance, durability, and performance.

Please be aware that your bespoke dress will take a minimum of four weeks to create from the start of making.

7. The final reveal: a dress made just for you

Spring Summer Colour Trends 2024

Motivated by the new Spring Season now upon us - we take influence from the Spring Summer catwalk runways that were dominated by colours ranging from classic pastels to dark cherry reds.

Be inspired by what is a key colour this season for your next couture …

SHADES OF GREEN

Ranging from dark to pastels - green were evident on the runways with designers using them in colour blocking and monochrome styles. From our pastel light Spearmint such as dress BDD019PP , to Apple Green with dramatic black features such as BDD519PP , and emerald green incorporating sugar pink for a romantic, softer style such as BDD977NN  . Crystal colours in emerald, shamrock and green tourmaline work well with this colour.

HEMATITE
A beautiful shade of grey with a slight blue hue this colour can be mixed with shades such as sugar pink and gold in dress BDD890NN , or experiment with shading from silver to hematite like in the dress BDD884NN . Enhance with crystals in shades of crystal and pink tones to accentuate the colour. Crystals in colours jet hematite, black diamond, crystal and crystal AB work well with this shade.

LILAC DREAM
A popular colour on the runways and the dancefloor lilac is a beautiful shade of violet with a slight pink hue. Enhance with crystals in crystal and yellow tones such as dress BDD559PP or be head to toe in lilac creating texture with ruching such as dress BDD483PP and lace in dress BDD456PP. Crystals in colours amethyst, light amethyst, violet and tanzanite are a great match against this shade.

PASTEL BLUE
Shades of pastel blue such as our Bluebell and Ice Blue look great on the dancefloor and was a popular shade on the catwalk. Take inspiration from our Bluebell couture with shades of crystals and sequinned fabric in dress BDD425PP , or enhance Ice Blue with citrine crystals as shown in dress BDD660NN. Crystals in colour light sapphire, aquamarine and turquoise match well.

COBALT
A dramatic shade of blue this colour looks great under the spotlights; as worn by Irina with a ruched velvet bodice and satin chiffon skirts in dress BDD487PP , or for a lighter shade of electric blue enhanced with impressive shading to black in dress BDD013NN.  Crystals in colours montana, sapphire, capri blue and dark indigo best match this shade.

METALLIC GOLD
Bold and refined add a touch of gold to your couture. Emanuella had  embellished panels and shaded layered skirts in her dress BDD560PP , Irina used shading white to gold in her godets and floats with topaz and crystal embellishment on dress BDD442PP , and Olga’s Internationals couture BDD362PP featured gold godets and floats in satin chiffon creating an opulent finish.

BUTTERCREAM
A springtime classic, pastel yellow was prominent on the runways. Create rich textures with pleated fabric in your skirts and floats, enhance with feathers and embellish with crystals. Take inspiration with mixing block colours like dress BDD952NN mixed with lilac dream, or create rich accents incorporating gold features in dress BDD603NN

CHERRY RED

Red is always one of the most popular colours on the catwalk and the dancefloor - with this season is no exception. However a shift to deeper, opulent tones such as cherry red and wine take precedence. Take inspiration from Natascha’s wine couture with a cappuccino bodice embellished with white pearls and adorned feather boas, fringe and goose shading from wine to white BDD514PP , or dress head to toe in a column of colour creating texture with pleating and ruching in Sophia’s dress BDD460PP

The Dress Trends at the UK Open 2024

The start of 2024 saw the exciting UK Open take place at Bournemouth, which sets a precedent to what trends we can expect to see on the dancefloor for the rest of the year. Our couture team watched the competitions take place and noticed the following trends that may help you decide on your designs and colours for your next couture …

FEATHERS

As always feathers were very popular on the dresses, but it was much more common to see them used on the arms and as floats, as well as across the chest and shoulders.

shop feathers >

FLOATS

There was a big trend back towards large fabric floats, which was a definite shift from what we had been seeing previously.

COLOURS

In terms of colour, red was very popular, but greens and jewel stones like peacock blue and emerald really stood out on the floor.

Interestingly, silver was the surprise colour that seemed to be very popular on the floor.

SKIRTS

For the professionals, most of the skirts still had the normal organza underskirt, but in the amateur Ballroom it looked as if the flatter, lighter skirt trend set by Irina (and now also Emanuela and Vilhelmina) is catching on.

PANELLED DRESSES

There was also a very big trend towards panelled, all in one dresses that used stretch fabrics such as stretch net, crepe or lycra as an all in one dress. These gave a very flared look, being able to shape tightly over the hips and trimmed with crinoline at the hem.

LATIN

In the Latin, large sequins were the common theme. The darker colours and metallics seemed more popular than fluorescent tones but overall, there was a lot of variation.
