Radiant new colours, expanded ranges, and limitless creative possibilities

Following increased demand from designers and dressmakers, the Lumié crystal collection has been expanded with a series of striking new colours and sizes—offering even greater scope for creativity, depth, and brilliance in every design.

From rich metallic tones to luminous crystal shades, this latest launch is designed to elevate embellishment to a new level of sophistication.

Introducing Two Statement Metallic Shades

At the heart of the collection are two captivating new additions:

Labrador – a deep, reflective metallic grey that adds intensity and modern edge

Metallic Sunshine – a warm, radiant gold tone that brings richness and luminosity These shades have been carefully developed to complement classic crystal, silver, and gold embellishments, enhancing depth while creating a refined interplay of light. Available across a versatile selection of sew-on shapes—including Pear, Rivoli, Oval, Cosmic, and Navette—as well as flat backs in ss16, ss20, and ss30, they offer flexibility for both delicate detailing and bold, statement designs.

Dressmaker Spotlight: Metallic Sunshine in Couture Design

The impact of these new tones is beautifully illustrated by Beau Bows Designs Freestyle gown, where Metallic Sunshine is used across both sew-on shapes and flat backs on a striking saffron freestyle gown.

Combined with Crystal and Crystal AB, the result is a multidimensional, light-catching effect that enhances movement and delivers a truly dazzling finish—demonstrating how thoughtful crystal placement can transform a garment into a statement piece.

Expanding the Colour Spectrum

Alongside these metallic additions, a curated selection of new non-hotfix crystal shades has been introduced, offering fresh colour possibilities across both vibrant and classic palettes:

Peridot & Peridot AB Light Rose & Light Rose AB Aquamarine & Aquamarine AB Ruby AB & Jet AB

Each shade is designed to maximise brilliance, adding clarity, sparkle, and depth to any design—whether used subtly for accent detailing or layered for a more dramatic effect.

Available in ss16, ss20, and ss30, these crystals offer practical versatility for a wide variety of creative applications.

Irina Cherepanova BDD772PP

Light, Texture & Radiance

At the Open Worlds in the iconic Tower Ballroom, a dazzling white gown captured attention on the floor. Crafted from Bellarosa stretch lace and layers of flowing georgette, the design was finished with ostrich feather boas and Swarovski® Crystals that illuminated every movement.

Irina Cherepanova BDD820PP

Depth & Drama

A striking black design revealed a more dramatic side of couture. Ruched stretch net layered over embroidered motifs created a richly textured, almost “secret garden” effect, while feather boas and Swarovski® Crystals added movement, depth and brilliance under the lights.

Zhengyang Zhang BDD817PP

Colour & Impact

Rich wine tones brought bold elegance to the floor in a gown worn at the Wintergardens. Layers of georgette, stretch net and satin chiffon flowed effortlessly, enhanced with Swarovski® Crystals in vivid shades of fuchsia shimmer, electric violet and rose — designed to catch the light from every angle.

Vilhelmina Lavrov BDD776PP

Softness & Dimension

In contrast, a blue-toned design introduced a softer, more romantic aesthetic. Three-dimensional petals and delicate feather detailing added texture, while georgette, stretch net and organza created fluidity and graceful movement. Swarovski® Crystals completed the look with a subtle, radiant finish

Olivia and Kirill

Rising Stars: Olivia & Kirill – A Partnership to Watch

Blackpool U21 Champion ????
International Amateur RS Champion ????

UK Open U21 Champion ????

WDC AL European U21 champion????

Just months before their spectacular victory at the prestigious Blackpool Dance Festival, where they captured the Under 21 champion title, Olivia Bourne and Kirill were already on an exciting upward trajectory.

When they visited our London showroom to select the fabrics for Olivia’s Blackpool gowns, we had the pleasure of sitting down with this dynamic duo to uncover the story behind their partnership, their passion, and the drive that’s shaping their future on the dance floor.

From Different Journeys to One Shared Dream

At just 18, Olivia Bourne has already carved out an impressive path, moving from England to Poland in pursuit of her training. Meanwhile, Kirill, 20, brings over a decade of dance experience, having started at just six years old.

Their stories may have begun worlds apart, but their passion for ballroom brought them together in the studio. What started as casual dances between training sessions soon revealed something special.

A spark. A connection. A partnership.

Nine months later, that instinct has proven right.

The Moment Everything Changed

For both Olivia and Kirill, dance quickly became more than just a hobby—it became an obsession.

For Olivia, it was that first breakthrough result in her junior years that ignited her ambition:

“The feeling was amazing—I just wanted to see how far it could go.”

For Kirill, it was a moment of competitive hunger:

“I finished third and thought… why not first? Why can’t I be better?”

That relentless mindset continues to drive them today.

Strength in Partnership

What makes Olivia and Kirill stand out is not just their technique, but the way they work as a team.

There’s a strong sense of trust and mutual respect—Kirill’s vision paired with Olivia’s ability to interpret and bring it to life creates a powerful dynamic on the floor.

They motivate each other through the toughest training days, lifting each other when it matters most—whether it’s pushing through fatigue or overcoming competition nerves.

And while they share victories, they also share the quiet moments—walks through Warsaw, resetting and recharging for the next challenge ahead.

Olivia wears a dress made with Chrisanne Clover fabrics in the colour Forest Green including Bellarosa stretch lace and embellished with Lumié crystals

Performance, Presence & the Power of Costume

For Olivia, performance is deeply connected to confidence—and confidence starts with how she feels the moment she steps onto the floor.

“If I feel good, I dance better.”

Choosing the right fabric and design is a crucial part of that.

As a Chrisanne Clover sponsored dancer, Olivia knows the impact of quality and craftsmanship:

“Everything looks better quality—it stands out. It makes me feel like everyone is looking at me.”

From rich tones like her favourite wine red, to statement silhouettes and modern details like petal hems, her look is always designed to command attention.

Because in ballroom, presence is everything.

Focused on the Future

Despite their impressive results so early in their partnership, Olivia and Kirill are only just getting started.

Their goals are clear. Their ambition is unwavering.

From achieving top placements at Blackpool to pushing into amateur semi-finals and beyond, they are laser-focused on climbing to the top.

And with their work ethic, mindset, and connection, it’s easy to see why they’re a partnership to watch.

Words of Wisdom from Rising Stars

When asked what advice they would give to aspiring dancers, their message is simple—but powerful:

Never give up Work harder than you think you can Be yourself, not someone else

Because success isn’t just about results—it’s about growth, resilience, and believing in your own journey.

Watch This Space

Olivia and Kirill embody the next generation of ballroom excellence—talented, driven, and unapologetically ambitious.

And if their Blackpool success is anything to go by, this is only the beginning…

Irina at The Open Worlds

Blackpool Brilliance: Irina Shines in Couture at The Open Worlds

There are moments in ballroom dancing that transcend competition — moments where performance, artistry, and couture collide to create something unforgettable. At this year’s Open Worlds in Blackpool, that moment belonged to Irina and Stanislav, who captured the Professional Ballroom title in the legendary Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

An Iconic Floor, A Winning Performance

Set beneath the grandeur of the Blackpool Tower, one of the most prestigious venues in ballroom history, Irina delivered a performance defined by elegance, power, and precision.

But beyond the technique and triumph, it was the complete visual impact — the silhouette, the movement, the craftsmanship — that elevated her presence on the floor.

The Black Gown: Understated Glamour, Unforgettable Impact

Irina’s winning look was nothing short of couture mastery. Her striking black ballroom gown was a study in refined drama — elegant, sculptural, and rich in detail.

Handmade in London using the finest Chrisanne Clover fabrics, the design featured:

Ruched stretch net layered over a cappuccino bodice for a soft yet structured finish Intricate embroidery with bold motifs, creating depth and a subtle, “secret” luxury effect Lavish Swarovski® crystal embellishment in Graphite, Jet, and Silver Night that shimmered under the ballroom lights

As she moved across the floor, the gown came alive.

Two layers of flowing black georgette, combined with a satin chiffon underskirt, delivered fluidity and volume, while cascading ruffles down the back created a dramatic, show-stopping silhouette.

The look was completed with embellished ruched stretch net gloves, finished with ostrich feather detailing — adding texture, movement, and unmistakable couture flair.

A Second Statement: The White Bellarosa Gown

For the Team Match, Irina transformed her look entirely, stepping out in a radiant white Bellarosa stretch lace gown — a striking contrast to her black ensemble.

This design brought a lighter, ethereal energy to the floor while maintaining the same level of luxury and craftsmanship:

Stretch lace layered over cappuccino underlayers for dimension and softness Swarovski crystal embellishment, including Crystal AB, Electric White, and White Opal for a luminous finish Flowing satin chiffon and georgette floats, enhanced with ostrich feather boas and fringe for added movement and drama

The result was a look that felt both powerful and effortlessly graceful — perfectly suited to the energy of the Team Match.

Where Performance Meets Couture

Irina’s Blackpool victory wasn’t just a celebration of dance — it was a celebration of craftsmanship, design, and the artistry of ballroom couture.

Each gown told a story:

The black dress — bold, sophisticated, and dramatic The white dress — luminous, fluid, and enchanting

Together, they showcased the power of couture to transform performance into spectacle.

Sunray Pleating

The Art of Sunray Pleating

Sunray pleating is one of the most striking techniques in couture dancewear design, celebrated for its movement, volume and sculptural elegance. Instantly recognisable on the dancefloor, it transforms fabric into flowing architecture that responds beautifully to every step, turn and rise.

A sunray pleat is a graduated accordion pleat formed in a semi-circle. The pleats begin delicately small at the hip or waist and gradually open out towards the hem, creating dramatic sweep and fluid motion. This unique construction allows the fabric to move effortlessly while maintaining a refined, couture silhouette.

What Is a Sunray (or Drop)?

In its simplest form, a sunray is a circular skirt shape that, once pleated, creates graduating accordion lines radiating from a central point. While sunray pleats are most commonly used for skirts, their versatility makes them ideal for sleeves, floats, godets, trouser legs and even decorative design details.

The term “drop” refers to the measurement from the waist to the hem — essentially, how long the sunray section is. Each sunray pattern includes a cut‑out at the centre point where the pleats originate. This central area is not pleated and typically measures around 20cm in diameter, though it can vary depending on the pattern.

Understanding these measurements is essential when planning volume, proportion and movement within a dance costume.

Creating Volume: How Many Sunrays Are Used?

In fashion, a traditional pleated skirt often uses two semi‑circles. However, competitive Ballroom couture demands far greater drama.

To achieve that signature Chrisanne Clover movement, gowns frequently use six to eight sunray‑pleated half‑circles, creating extraordinary volume and visual impact on the floor. The more sunrays used, the fuller and more expressive the skirt becomes — resulting in powerful flowlines that enhance every performance.

Fabric Choices for Sunray Pleating

Our sunray pleating service is available in georgette and satin/pearl chiffon, each offering a different aesthetic and movement quality.

Georgette provides soft, fluid drape with elegant weight and control Satin / Pearl Chiffon delivers luminous lightness with enhanced lift and shimmer

Each piece is supplied as one pleated half‑circle, available in 50cm, 70cm or 100cm lengths, allowing designers complete creative freedom when building their garment.

Couture in Motion: Design Inspiration

Sunray pleating truly comes alive in couture creation.

Six sunray‑pleated half‑circles of 100cm Sassy Yellow georgette combine to create a spectacular gown with sweeping movement and radiant energy.

A signature silhouette for Natascha Karabey, a striking fluo red couture design features eight sunray‑pleated 100cm half‑circles of satin chiffon, delivering breathtaking volume and drama.

In black couture, six 100cm black georgette half‑circles, paired with two additional 50cm shoulder panels, create fluid cascades of movement and sculptural elegance.

Each gown demonstrates how sunray pleating enhances performance, amplifies line and brings couture craftsmanship to life.

Made to Order

Sunray pleating is a special‑order service, expertly crafted to request. Orders are typically completed within approximately 1–2 weeks, ensuring precision, consistency and couture‑level finish every time.

Sakina Onishi

Sakina Onishi

A presence that speaks through movement

We are proud to introduce Sakina Onishi, our NEW Sponsored Gold Dancer, to the Chrisanne Clover family — a dancer whose elegance, artistry, and quiet strength captivate both audience and floor.

Representing Japan in Professional Ballroom, Sakina partnered with Yuji Hiroshima in July 2025, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter in her competitive career. Together, they bring refinement, musicality, and precision to every performance.

From the practice studio to the world’s most prestigious competitions, Sakina can be seen wearing Chrisanne Clover couture and practicewear, meticulously designed and made in London by our expert team of dressmakers. Each couture gown is individually crafted to reflect Sakina’s personality — sculpted silhouettes, flowing lines, and intricate detailing finished with Swarovski® crystals, allowing her to radiate under the lights.

Dance has shaped Sakina’s world since childhood. She began dancing at just three years old, inspired by parents who were dancers themselves. Her mother later became a teacher at Sakina’s hometown dance school, where her love for movement, discipline, and expression was nurtured from an early age.

One of her most formative memories came at Junior Blackpool, where she first realised the depth of her passion for ballroom dancing. Today, The Blackpool Dance Festival remains her favourite competition — a stage rich in history, tradition, and artistic excellence.

When asked about colour, Sakina’s answer is instant: red ❤️. A symbol of passion, confidence, and presence — qualities she brings effortlessly to the floor.

Of all the dances, Waltz holds a particularly special place in her heart. It was the first dance she learned, the one she practiced most, and the foundation of her elegance and musicality. Its timeless beauty continues to inspire her with every performance.

For Sakina, a dress is never simply a costume.
The right dress becomes an extension of her movement — enhancing confidence, clarity, and expression. When a gown truly suits her, she feels free to communicate without words, allowing her dancing to speak directly to the audience.

Sakina also speaks with admiration for Eugene, whose performances resonate deeply with her. “I can truly feel how much he enjoys music and dancing,” she shares — a quality she strives to embody herself.

The competition floor is where Sakina feels most alive. Through movement alone, she hopes to touch people emotionally, telling stories that go beyond language. With dedication, refinement, and relentless hard work, she continues to pursue that goal every day.

Wearing Chrisanne Clover couture, Sakina is confident she can shine brighter than ever — evolving not only as a dancer, but as an artist. Together with her partner, she looks ahead with determination and ambition, working tirelessly toward the dream of becoming top dancers in the world.

This is only the beginning.

NEW Shine Collection

Introducing Moonlight Georgette & Antique Shimmer Stretch Crepe

Two New Shine Fabrics Designed to Steal the Spotlight

When it comes to performance wear, nothing transforms a design more powerfully than fabric that comes alive under the lights. Our latest fabric launches—Moonlight Georgette and Antique Shimmer Stretch Crepe—have been created with exactly that moment in mind: when movement, light, and design come together on the dancefloor.

Both collections bring a new level of shine, depth, and elegance to competition and performance wear, offering designers and dressmakers fabrics that don’t just shimmer—but truly captivate.

The Power of Shine in Motion

What sets both of these fabrics apart is their luminous foil finish, layered over rich, beautifully saturated base colours. This innovative finish creates an irresistible wet‑look shimmer that reacts dynamically to light and movement. Under spotlights, the effect is striking yet refined—delivering impact without overwhelming the design.

Whether swirling across the ballroom floor or lighting up a Latin routine, these fabrics are engineered to enhance every movement and elevate every silhouette.

Moonlight Georgette: Light, Flowing, and Ultra‑Radiant

Moonlight Georgette is all about fluidity and drama. Lightweight with a soft, floating drape, it moves effortlessly with the body—perfect for skirts, panels, sleeves, and layered detailing.

Available in 12 breathtaking colours, each shade can be finished with your choice of silver or gold foil, allowing you to tailor the final look to your design. For those looking to create something truly unique, the option to mix and match foil finishes opens the door to exquisitely layered effects with exceptional depth and dimension.

Moonlight Georgette is ideal for designers seeking elegance, movement, and a luminous finish that catches the eye from every angle.

Antique Shimmer Stretch Crepe: Elegance Meets Performance

For a more structured yet equally striking finish, Antique Shimmer Stretch Crepe offers the perfect balance of style and wearability. This one‑way stretch crepe provides comfort and flexibility while maintaining a smooth, flattering drape.

Its antiqued shimmer finish delivers a soft metallic glow—sophisticated, timeless, and beautifully controlled. Designed to shine under spotlights without overpowering the look, it’s perfect for fitted gowns, sleeves, bodices, and statement panels.

Also available in 12 stunning colours, Antique Shimmer Stretch Crepe transforms classic designs into couture‑level creations while remaining lightweight and comfortable for long performance wear.

Designed for Ballroom, Latin & Performance Wear

Both collections have been developed with dancers, designers, and dressmakers in mind. From the way the fabrics react to light, to how they move with the body, every detail has been considered to ensure maximum impact on the floor.

Whether you’re creating a dramatic ballroom gown, a high‑energy Latin dress, or a statement performance piece, Moonlight Georgette and Antique Shimmer Stretch Crepe offer the shine, movement, and versatility to bring your vision to life.

Bellarosa Lace Spotlight

Stretch Lace That Steals the Spotlight: A Designer’s Guide to Bellarosa

Stretch lace is one of the quickest ways to make a design look intentional, elevated, and stage-ready. In this post, we’ll break down what makes Bellarosa special (including its 13 colour options and signature scalloped edge), then walk through real gown examples—so you can confidently plan lace placement, layering, and crystal colour stories.

Why stretch lace works (and where it shines) Movement-friendly finish: Stretch lace flexes with the body, making it ideal for dancewear and fitted silhouettes. Instant texture: A lace layer adds depth on camera and under lights—without heavy construction. Built-in design lines: Use motifs and scallops to frame necklines, cuffs, backs, and godets. Versatile styling: Works as an all-over layer or as targeted accents on bodices and sleeves. Meet Bellarosa: colour, scallops, and couture impact

Bellarosa is designed to look luxurious up close and read clearly from the floor. With 13 colour options, you can match your base fabric for a seamless “all-over” effect or deliberately contrast for definition. The scalloped edge is a feature—plan placements where it can be seen (necklines, cuffs, hemlines, and back details). Pair it with fluid fabrics like georgette and chiffon for softness, or velvet and crepe for a sharper, modern look. Finish the story with crystals that either echo your lace colour (clean and refined) or shift it (high-impact sparkle under lights).

Design case studies: three ways to use Bellarosa

1) All-over elegance in white (BDD772PP)

Worn by world champion Irina at the UK Open, this white Ballroom gown features 4m of white Bellarosa stretch lace layered over georgette and satin, finished with ostrich feather fringe and boas. Swarovski crystals: Crystal AB, Electric White, White Opal.

Show the scallop: frame necklines and cuffs so the edge becomes your “trim.” Keep the base clean: white-on-white layers look richest when fabrics stay tonal. Pick a glow palette: Crystal AB + whites amplify light without overwhelming lace detail.

Materials at a glance:

White bellarosa stretch lace: 4m Georgette white: 20m Saint chiffon cappuccino: 6m Stretch net cappccino: 1.1m Matt lycra: 50cm Satin white: 1.5m Ostrich feather fringe white: 13m Ostrich feather boa: 2 pieces Crystals: Crystal; Crystal AB; White Opal; Electric White

2) Structured drama in Midnight Sky (BDD662PP)

Midnight Sky: 1m of Bellarosa stretch lace shapes the bodice, teamed with velvet and stretch crepe for a clean, modern line. Swarovski crystals: Crystal and Cobalt.

Use lace as architecture: place it where you want the eye to land—bust, waist, and shoulder lines. Mix matte + shine: velvet/crepe keeps it sleek; crystals add controlled sparkle. Limit colours: one strong blue crystal shade keeps the look modern. Materials at a glance: Stretch net midnight sky: 80cm Lustre lycra: 80cm Bellarosa stretch lace: 1m Premium crepe: 6m Crystal organza: 7m Velvet: 40cm Crystals: Crystal; Cobalt

3) Rich, romantic Wine (BDD598PP)

Wine Ballroom: an all‑over look in 11m wine Bellarosa stretch lace, floating over cappuccino lycra and satin chiffon, finished with ostrich feather boas. Swarovski crystals: Fuchsia Shimmer, Siam Nightfall, Light Siam Shimmer, Ruby.

Commit to the colour: an all-over lace layer looks most couture when it’s uninterrupted. Let the underlayer soften it: cappuccino + chiffon adds warmth and movement under wine lace. Build a crystal gradient: mix ruby tones with shimmer shades for depth. Materials at a glance: Matt lycra cappuccino: 1.3m Bellarosa stretch lace: 11m Satin chiffon cappuccino: 9m Crinoline 77mm cappuccino: 2 rolls Ostrich feather boa: 2 pieces Crystals: Fuchsia Shimmer; Siam Nightfall; Light Siam Shimmer; Ruby

Practicewear spotlight: Audrey Latin dress

For practicewear, lace works best as a deliberate “finish”—not an afterthought. On the Audrey Latin dress, Bellarosa trims a back triangle godet with a scalloped edge, giving clean movement and a premium look. Tip: add crystals at the godet point to weight it slightly and exaggerate the whip effect.

Ready to design with Bellarosa?

Pick one design move to try: frame a neckline with the scalloped edge, commit to an all-over lace layer, or build a crystal palette that amplifies your colour story. Start with your base fabric, choose your Bellarosa shade, then plan where the scallop will be seen from the floor—because the best gowns don’t just sparkle… they’re engineered to be noticed.

Performance Lycra

Discover One of Our Most Loved Fabrics: Lycra

The Essential Fabric for Dance & Performance

In the world of dancewear and performance, Lycra has earned its place as one of the most iconic and versatile fabrics available. Its fluidity, flexibility, and comfort make it the go‑to choice for designers and dancers who need garments that look beautiful and move effortlessly.

Lycra — also known as Spandex — is a synthetic fibre renowned for its exceptional elasticity, strength, and ability to return to its original shape after stretching. It is also faster‑drying than ordinary fabrics, adding practicality to its long list of benefits.

Why Lycra Stands Out

Lycra’s unique 4‑way stretch makes it ideal for movement‑focused design. It adapts to the dancer’s body, enhances silhouettes, and creates a sleek, professional finish — all while maintaining comfort.

This fabric supports every performance by ensuring the costume moves with the body, never against it.

Lycra in Chrisanne Clover Couture

A Foundation for Couture Design

Within Chrisanne Clover couture, Lycra forms the base of nearly every dress. Its snug, body‑conforming fit provides:

Supportive leotard bases Built‑in shaping and support panels Smooth, sculpted outer layers

This structure ensures each couture gown maintains its elegance, shape, and fit throughout movement, rehearsals, and competition rounds.

Extensive Colour Perfection

Our Lycra range includes both Matt and Lustre finishes, available in an extensive palette of carefully curated colours.

Each shade is colour‑matched to our wider fabric collection, including:

Stretch Lace Stretch Net Georgette Satin Chiffon Organza

This gives designers absolute creative freedom — every layer, godet, appliqué or sleeve can coordinate effortlessly.

What Makes Lycra Perfect for Dancewear

Flexibility

Unmatched stretch and recovery allow complete freedom of movement. Dancers can extend, leap, twist, and turn without restriction.

Comfort

Lycra moulds to the body like a second skin — smooth, supportive, and non‑restrictive, even during long rehearsals.

Breathability

The fabric wicks moisture away from the skin, helping to regulate body temperature and prevent overheating.

Shape Retention

Costumes keep their sleek silhouette performance after performance, even with repeated stretching.

Durability

Resistant to runs, pulls, and wear, Lycra withstands rigorous practice and stage use.

Style

The fabric’s form‑fitting nature creates the glamorous, body‑conscious lines loved in Ballroom and Latin design.

A Fabric With Endless Applications

Lycra is one of the most widely used fabrics in the performance world — not only within dance, but across many industries:

Dance & Performance

Ballroom Latin Ice Skating Freestyle Baton Twirling Stage & Screen Costumes

Beyond Dance

Green‑screen suits for film Swimsuits Gymnastics Sportswear Dog collars (yes, really!)

Its adaptability and performance make it a favourite across creative fields.

How Lycra Is Used in Dress Construction

Common Uses in Ballroom & Latin Costumes

Leotard bases Bodice and upper‑body panels Fringe and embellishment foundations Sleeves and gauntlets Dress panels paired with lighter godets Appliqué bases over stretch nets Covered belts, armlets, and 3D decorative elements

Lycra’s strength and stability make it ideal for structure, while its stretch ensures comfort and fluidity.

Perfect Pairings: Lycra + Other Fabrics

Designers often combine Lycra with lighter or textured fabrics to create depth, movement, and contrast.

Popular combinations include:

Lycra bodice + stretch‑net sleeves Lycra appliqué + stretch‑net base Lycra leotard under crepe or stretch‑net dress layers Lycra panels + georgette or satin‑chiffon godets Double‑layer Lycra + stretch‑net bodices for added structure

These blends help achieve both durability and graceful movement.

Stretch Satin Fabric

Stretch Satin Fabric: Your Complete Chrisanne Clover Guide to Elegance, Performance & Practical Use

When it comes to designing couture or dancewear, the choice of fabric shapes everything—from movement and silhouette to comfort and longevity. Among the most beloved materials used at Chrisanne Clover is Stretch Satin, renowned for its lustrous sheen, fluid drape, and versatility. In this blog, we explore what makes this fabric exceptional, how it behaves structurally, and why it remains a favourite across performance and couture design.

Understanding the Structure: What Makes Stretch Satin Unique?

Before diving into creative applications, it’s important to understand the technical nature of Stretch Satin—especially because this fabric behaves differently from true elastic-based stretch materials.

Fabric Width: 112cm Available in 10 vibrant colour options perfectly colour matched to colour collections Where the Stretch Comes From:
The stretch does not come from elastane. Instead, it comes from the woven structure itself, giving the fabric a mechanical, one‑way stretch.

While Stretch Satin offers movement, it cannot perform the same way as elastane‑based stretch fabrics in areas that require significant give.

Chrisanne Clover Stretch Satin features:

Excellent one‑way mechanical stretch Good bias stretch, increasing versatility in shaping and drape Beautiful glossy shine that captures light effortlessly Suitability for all‑over garments or statement skirt work

The possibilities truly are endless—whether you're crafting dramatic movement in ballroom skirts or sculpting clean silhouettes for performance.

What Is Stretch Satin? A Closer Look

Stretch Satin is a hybrid of visual luxury and functional design. Traditionally, satin is known for its unmistakably smooth surface and elegant sheen. With Stretch Satin, these qualities are retained—but enhanced with mechanical flexibility.

Key characteristics include:

A smooth, luminous surface characteristic of satin weaving Added flexibility due to the woven structure, not synthetic stretch fibres A fluid drape that works beautifully in motion Durability that withstands the demands of performance and repeated wear

This combination makes Stretch Satin a premium option for garments requiring sophistication, controlled stretch, and a polished finish.

Why Designers Choose Stretch Satin for Dancewear

Dancewear demands excellence in both appearance and performance. Stretch Satin delivers on both fronts:

1. Movement-Focused Flexibility

Its mechanical stretch offers the right amount of give to support shape and movement—especially in skirts or panels requiring extra fluidity.

2. Stage-Ready Aesthetic

Its glossy finish radiates under lights, making dancers appear brighter, sharper, and more dynamic on the floor.

Tips for Sewing and Designing with Stretch Satin

Working with satin requires care to preserve its beauty. Here are some expert tips:

·       Pattern placing: Be mindful how you place your pattern pieces as the satin shine will affect the look of the panels if they not placed the same way, however this could be a design choice and the shine at opposite ends can change the overall look. Cut with precision: A rotary cutter helps maintain clean lines and reduces slippage. Use the right needle: A ballpoint or microtex needle avoids snags. Choose stretch-friendly seams: Zigzag or overlock stitching helps accommodate movement. Press with caution: Always use a pressing cloth and low heat to protect the sheen.

Why Stretch Satin Remains a Timeless Favourite

Its enduring appeal lies in its ability to unite:

The UK Open Couture

UK Open 2026: A Showcase of Couture Brilliance

This January, the 2026 dance season opened in spectacular fashion at the prestigious UK Open Dance Festival—a highlight of the Ballroom world and a stage where artistry, athleticism, and couture meet. This year, World Professional Ballroom Champion Irina Cherepanova mesmerised audiences as she floated across the floor in three breathtaking Chrisanne Clover couture gowns.

Each gown was expertly handcrafted in London by our talented team, using only the finest Chrisanne Clover fabrics and Swarovski crystals. From intricate lacework and feather‑trimmed godets to sculpted bodices and cascading floats, every detail was designed to captivate under the spotlight.

In this blog, we take you behind the scenes of the couture worn at the UK Open—exploring the craftsmanship, the colour stories, and the components that bring each masterpiece to life. Whether you're a designer, a dancer, or simply a lover of couture, let these stunning gowns inspire your next creation.

BDD772PP — White Bellarosa Lace Finale Gown

For the UK Open final, Irina stepped onto the floor in a breathtaking white halterneck Ballroom gown crafted from Bellarosa stretch lace with intricate scalloped edging. Layered over a cappuccino underdress, the lace created a delicate sheer illusion that shimmered with every turn.

The bodice was lavishly embellished with Swarovski Crystal and Crystal AB, adding brilliance under the spotlight. Georgette godets trimmed with ostrich feathers delivered sweeping movement, while embellished stretch‑net gloves with spiral floats and ostrich boas completed this ethereal ensemble. A detachable white satin bubble‑bustle belt offered a unique couture flourish.

This soft yet striking ice‑blue Ballroom gown worn in earlier rounds offered a romantic contrast. A beautifully ruched sweetheart neckline in stretch net was intricately embellished with Swarovski Crystal Shimmer, Ocean Delite, and Light Sapphire.

The signature zig‑zag satin chiffon skirt, made of two flowing layers with a right‑front split, enhanced the gown’s movement and line. Embellished gloves with chiffon floats and a graceful shoulder float cascading down the left shoulder added elegance. A crystallized necklace completed the luminous look.

Georgette godets and floats, lavishly trimmed with both ostrich and goose feathers, rested over satin chiffon and organza underskirts for dramatic, voluminous movement.
